Modern Staffing is seeking a qualified On-The-Job Training Machine Shop Operator for a local manufacturing company in New Braunfels, TX:
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is to successfully complete On-the-Job Training (OJT) to gain proficiency in operating machine shop equipment to produce parts, hardware, other products and perform other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Inspect machinery and equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
- Operate and use various machines, hand tools, small power tools and precision measuring tools.
- Operate cutting saws, punch press, drill press, sander, tapping machine, endmill machines, kick press, spot welders and other machine shop equipment to produce security hardware products and/or components
- Performs basic maintenance of machine shop equipment.
- Use appropriate oils and lubricants according to metal and/or machine specifications.
- Adjust machine settings to secure required dimensions and quality on machine production runs. Must be able to machine parts to specified tolerances.
- Feed raw materials or parts through semi-automated machines.
- Produce samples for QA inspection; Inspect production piece parts for proper dimensions/specifications using various measuring equipment and test fractures.
- Complete in-process inspection, place products on hold/containment if needed
- Report production delays and/or quality concerns/variances.
- Works from sketches, drawings, blueprints, patterns, templates, process sheets or samples and/or written and verbal instructions.
- Complete repair or rework parts as requested.
- Assists in recordkeeping related to job orders/production.
- Meet or exceed 85% Standard Rate (STD) and support new hire training.
- Maintain appearance standards, presence, and professional communication skills.
- Report on building, equipment sanitation, OSHA, and Safety concerns
- Responsible for assigned production, efficiency, and productivity to minimize backlog.
- Begin and end shift on time consistently and report delays immediately.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, quality control, and safety of the work area.
- Follow established procedures, work instructions, and operational controls.
- Follow safe working practices and wear required personal protective equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Six months of experience working with hand tools, small power tools, punch presses, cutting saws, drill presses, sanders, tapping machines, endmill machines, kick presses, spot welders, or precision measuring tools in a shop environment preferred.
- Attentive to detail; Good planning and time management skills, and willing to train on a variety of machine shop-related tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and engineering documentation.
- Skilled verbal and written communication skills.
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations and using precise measuring devices.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Ability to understand and skills in operating mechanical systems and various shop machinery/equipment.
- Skilled in using devices such as hand tools and small power tools.
- Ability to perform detailed repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and/or frequently.
- Work involves frequent periods of standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning and reaching or bending at the waist.
- Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand-eye coordination, utilizing near and far vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity necessary to work with various materials/objects
SHIFT:
Monday - Thursday 6:00AM-4:30PM
PAY RATE:
$16.50/hr.
